Vatuwiri
is the most active resort in the world. Why is that? ….
Because we’re also an active copra farm, a cattle ranch,
a large horse ranch, 1500 acres at the south corner of a beautiful
tropical island paradise, a sunny beach, a private seaside
cove, a rocky volcanic shoreline, a snorkeler’s paradise,
a fisherman’s dream, an unparallel artistic inspiration,
an ancient stone village, a wildlife reserve, a rolling plantation,
a volcanic crater, a self sustaining community, a biker’s
challenge, and the list goes on and on and on.... Here’s
the incredible part... Every one of these activities is available
on our resort estate! The garden island of Taveuni also feature
spectacular elements not on our estate, such as waterfalls,
hiking, additional crater climbs, village tours and various
stunning scenic elements all within an hour or two of our
base resort.
Every guest that arrives will leave Vatuwiri with his/her
own most memorable experience, but its safe to say that our
resort/ estate/ plantation/ reserve offers more unforgettable
activities than perhaps any other in the world. That’s
a bold statement so let’s start a running list but feel
free to add your own activities to the list once you get here...
In addition to the above

Once Hop on Your Bike, Who Knows When You’ll Want to
Return
We offer 7 to 8 miles of trails
You can also choose to exit the estate to visit Vuna Village,
the ocean’s edge blow hole, many other beautiful beaches,
coastal vistas and a host of natural island wonders.

An Archeological Treasure
Baudua was the Fijian village led by the once great Tui Vuna.
He is considered by some to perhaps be Fiji greatest warrior
chief. He was said to have an army so large that they were
lined up at arms lenghth for miles from the ocean to build
their fortifed, battle ready village when they passed up the
thousands and thouands of stones to ensure their long-term
safety.
With only the most basic of tools, they dug multiple layers
of wide moats (15 feet wide and 10 feet deep) for sophistiacted
defense and retreat staregies. This village was never conquered
but ultimately fell to the cunning of a neigboring tribe as
Tui Vuna’s son was kidnapped by a close relative who
sided with the enemy and he surrended to save his son’s
life.
Perusing the village today on our grounds will still yeild
the occassional artifact from a time passed long. Long ago.

Climb, Hike and Enter Into an Island Eco-System
Taveuni is a volcanic island. In fact, today its status is
considered dormant with the chance of future activity not
beyond the realm of possibility. On our estate we have one
of the island’s largest volcanic craters with a diameter
of over a half kilometer in length. Now, more bush jungle
than lava stone in appearance, you can trek to the top of
this crater and down inside to the marshy bottom. It is an
ecological beauty whose journey to its soul will remain with
you for a lifetime.
Not far off our estate you can visit the South Cape and see
the immensely popular “Matamaiqi Blow Holes”.
Water from the ocean shoots through the volcanic rock and
depending upon conditions and lighting can reach heaths of
100 ft or higher and produce magnificent rainbow effects.

No Need to be Afraid
The world has 7 varieties of bats, five of which reside in
Taveuni and two of which are indigenous only to our island.
Have no fear, they are all fruit bats. ? Locating their transient
roost is in and of itself a fun hunt. Viewing thousands of
bats, hanging upside down, is a remarkable sight. They are
always located somewhere on the grounds but generally seem
to find a new tree to hang from every few weeks or so. Witnessing
them flying out of the volcanic crater like a giant, living
black cloud will certainly leave you speechless.

Nothing Beats a Farmyard Sensibility
Vatuwiri is an economically viable copra farm and production
facility. We also have a cattle ranch, large piggery, horse
ranch and many other farm animals and activities. We grow
our own vegetables and we are, barring fuel and a few other
necessities, primarily self-sufficient. You are always welcome
to chip in and join us for any/all of these activities to
gain yourself a great perspective on sustainable living with
nature.
How many do you want to experience? Well that depends only
on how long you’ll want to remain here in Nature’s
Paradise.
